Missing Hikers in Glacier National Park

Postby schrund » Sat Oct 13, 2012 3:56 pm

This from Glacier National park's Facebook page today: Need your help! Two hikers are overdue from a backcountry hike in the Two Medicine Area of the park- one male, age 32 years, 6 feet tall, approx 180 pounds, brown hair and blue eyes, and one male, age 32 years, 6 feet tall, approx 200 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes. We believe the hikers departed from Two Medicine via the North Shore Trailhead on Tuesday, October 9 planning to camp at the Oldman Backcountry Campground and return to Two Medicine on Wednesday, October 10, perhaps camping at Two Medicine Campground Wednesday evening and then doing some day hikes on Thursday. Both men are from the east coast. Anyone that may have any information or may have been in the area and seen individuals that may meet the descriptions are encouraged to contact the park at 888-7805. Thanks! (dg)

We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, and winding streams... as "wild". Only to the white man was nature a "wilderness".

Wow, while they were looking for these two, a body was found of another hiker that went missing on July 29th: http://www.nps.gov/glac/parknews/missing-hiker-located.htm

Hope they are found alive. The lack of cell phone coverage and the amazingly rugged and dangerous terrain makes for a very deadly situation should anyone be in distress. The qualities that contribute for people to Love Glacier NP also make it an extremely dangerous place. I have a huge amount of respect for it but find it amazing.

Im sending positive vibes to everyone involved in the situation.

Inexperienced hikers depending on electronic rescues is increasing the number of bad situations according to every ranger/SAR talk I've heard.

But hope these guys come out OK.
