Yep, that's the one the National Parks Service knows so the Colorado site being named Chimney Rock National Monument (per the White House press release) will cause confusion, not unlike Mt. Wilson and Wilson Peak. Think it would have been better to name it Pueblo National Historic Park or such like they did for the Nez Pierce as it's about more than the rock.

Odd that the Chimney Rock National Historic Site site at www.nps.gov is down.

The above is by Jackson of Mt. Holy Cross fame.
Not sure if I'll do more 14ers. The trip reports are too tiring.

No it's not.
It's in the Cimarron's next to Turret Ridge and Courthouse Mountain. :P

Sorry, both of you need to get it together.
It's in Montezuma County. http://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/Climbers.php?Id=6447

Non-political. huh?

No reason to suspect that that the current president is trying to buy votes in contested Colorado during a re-election campaign?

In other National Monument news:

Obama to designate Chavez home as nat'l monument

Associated Press ^ | Oct. 1, 2012 | MATTHEW DALY

WASHINGTON — In a move aimed at shoring up support from Hispanic and progressive voters, President Barack Obama will designate the California home of labor leader Cesar Chavez as a national monument.

Obama will establish the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument in Keene, Calif., during a campaign swing through California next week.

Yes, whenever a catch phrase like "non-political, political news", or "regardless of what side of the aisle you're on" is dusted off, it's always political. Even if the OP was not intending to be political, any Obama visit to Colorado now, with the election only a month away, is certainly 100% political.

Why not just make him Czar of National Monuments?

This designation is the culmination of years of hard work of many Coloradans, and to dismiss it as a vote pandering swipe of a pen is to negate all of that hard work. [-X

And comparing this to Caesar Chavez's home? Are you suggesting that he's pandering votes from the EXTINCT Anasazi people?

The fact is that an irreplaceable piece of archeological heritage (not to mention crucial raptor nesting area) is now protected and you should be celebrating that, regardless of the convenient timing for the self centered politicians who signed the paperwork. If either candidate fixed all the problems in this country, I'd be psyched - even if they did it for selfish reasons.
