Elevate !

Postby jomagam » Mon Sep 17, 2012 12:59 pm

I know it's lame, but I got a little hooked on Strava and want to see if I can do an ascent with over 1000 meters per hour vertical. So far my best is just over 900 on Green Mountain. Can you recommend a trail that:

a. Has at least 2,000 feet of elevation difference
b. Is pretty steep
c. Is not at very high elevation
d. Is relatively easy, not too rocky

The Incline doesn't count ;-)

Mt Garfield (the one near Palisade), but maybe it's too far away.
I'm slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

How bout Bear Peak? http://app.strava.com/hikes/22245707#397554986 I did it just yesterday. Looks like I was only around 700m/hr [edit: 625 :( ]. So go embarrass your bald brother.

I'm confused, 2000 feet of elevation isn't close to 1000 meters. Do you run up the first, then back down and back up again? I always thought the Green Mountain in boulder was best for a good elevation gain around town, but even that is only about 700 meters of gain.

It is possible to go at a pace of 1000 meters an hour without actually ascending 1000 meters. ;)

Good call. Seems like the fastest on Fern Canyon is doing almost 1400m/h . Anything over 300m/h is good in my book ;)

I almost want to pay the premium so I can see how I stack up against other 210 pounders, but that would just be silly.

By the way, your title makes me think of a Dalek. http://www.myspace.com/video/cybotron/dr-who-dalek-quot-elevate-quot/5639680

May other geeks unite with me....

This is a cool App. Unfortunately, I can't get to 1000M in NYC unless they let me go up and down the Empire State bldg 3x. Then the GPS probably wouldn't work anyway :-(

I might try this though next hiking/climbing trip out!

Mt. Morrison

Postby Sixpoint » Mon Sep 17, 2012 5:33 pm

Try Mt. Morrison from Red Rocks entrance #4. This is 2000 ft of elevation gain in about 2 miles, plenty of steep trail with just a bit of class 2 scrambling at the top.

Why doesn't the incline count? It's 2,000' of gain...

Someone should make a strava club for 14ers.com folks so we can all look at each other's hikes/runs.
