Odd situation on Pikes

Postby SkiBikeClimb99 » Sun Sep 09, 2012 9:46 pm

Anybody see this? I just ran across it on Twitter. Burning car found with body inside 1/2 mile from summit.

That's absolutely horrid. Will be interesting to see how the story unfolds. Might be more interesting to see how the thread unfolds... :wft:

National Parks are notorious for suicides.
People like to spend their last moments in a transcendent place.
And they dont want to dirty their home nest with a corpse.

Wow! That is really speculation.
Growing older is inevitable, but getting old is not.

It sounds as if it was an accident... From 9News in Denver:

Colorado Springs police are investigating after a body was found in a burning car following a crash on the Pikes Peak highway.
Police said they got a report of the accident on Sunday and found the vehicle up an embankment near the summit fully engulfed in flames.
Police say after the fire was put out, they found one person dead inside.
Authorities say they are still trying to identify the victim.

you would be amazed at how many bodies are recovered every year as suicides. almost none of them make the news

join a SAR team and find out. figuring 6 or more a year, in one county. If you could access a police call screen you will see a lot of 'suicidal/check the welfare' calls.

this was a suicide attempt. It is the only one of dozens over 9 years that I recall ever making the news.

It's true, I believe there is an understanding in the media to not report about suicide and suicide attempts, especially by young people, so that they don't encourage others to commit suicide as well. I don't know how effective this approach is, but it's what they do.

Not unusual at all to have (at least) several suicides a week in each metro county/city. In fact, I believe Colorado has been ranking in the top 5 for the past few years. Rarely reported for obvious reasons.
