No shortcuts to the top - Viesturs and Roberts (Great read thusfar....about half way through)

Waiting for Halfway to Heaven to be returned to the library.... I'm next on the hold list

Recently finished Dave Roberts book 'On the Ridge Between Life and Death' and I highly recommend it.

Also, just finished "No Shortcuts to the Top" by Viesturs & Roberts - classic read about the 14 8,000ers. Highly recommend to any fellow mountaineer.

Just started "The White Spider" by Heinrich Harrer - the ascent(s) of the North face of the Eiger. Wow, what a book and what a mountain!

The Mountaineers Anthology Series. Vol. 1 - Glorious Failures and Vol. 2 Courage and Misfortune. And of course Freedom of the Hills. Not much plot but riveting reading all the same.

Just about finished with "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown.

Pat Tillman Where Men Win Glory. Author is Jon Krakauer. This is a fantastic book. Krakauer really put some effort into this.

I disagree. The Krakauer book was a big disappointment, precisely because I like him so much (although Under the Banner of Heaven was an overtly political hack job). He takes heavily from other sources, and there's little original there. And his George bush asides are annoying--not because I like George Bush, but because they are out of place. I also consider Tillman a very interesting character and was looking for something more revealing. Very disappointing. Krakauer should stay with climbing.

Steelfrog: I completely disagree and would urge anyone interested in this book to read it for yourself and draw your own conclusions. Krakauer's sources included Tillman's personal diary and journals, which he was given access to by Tillman's family. He obtained information from Tillman's wife, Marie. He interviewed many other family members and friends. He interviewed people Tillman served with in the Army. He traveled to Afghanistan to perform research for this book. It is a deeply revealing book about Tillman.

Just finished Born To Run by Christopher McDougall and I highly recommend it - a very good read IMHO.
Now I am on to Halfway to Heaven by Mark Obmascik. Have been enjoying the references to some of the 14er.com forum members.

"The Religious Affections" by Jonathan Edwards is my theological reading at the moment but in terms of climbing, my list for this year includes:

Anatoli Boukreev – The Climb

Charles Houston – K2, The Savage Mountain

Jim Wickwire – Addicted to Danger

I'm about half way through Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why by Laurence Gonzales. Thus far, AWESOME read and definately highly recommended.

Good section in Chapter 7 about mountaineering (if I remember correctly). I would check to confirm, however, the book is at home and I am, of course, at work being a dedicated, hard-working employee NOT wasting time on 14ers.com

Just finished Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain, highly recommended.

I wanted to read Fight Club next, but I'll be reading the Mechanical Engineering Review Manual for the next 3 months. Boooooooo
